Meet the RLD Team

Our auditors are experienced in all lines of premium audit. A number of our employees have accounting degrees and/or continuing education or technical certifications. We are fortunate to have a CPA, CPCU, Certified Fraud Examiner and several APA’s on our staff. All are required to have practical experience in accounting or bookkeeping prior to becoming employees.

Joseph C. Micco, CPA, CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner)

President

Duties include quality control of audit manager team leaders. Oversee the compliance of good accounting practices by the field staff, keeping them appraised of any changes in payroll reporting changes that may affect their ability to verify the payroll information gathered at the audit. Reviews and defends our position when test audit results are varied from our findings. Directs our fraud program in helping identify potentially fraudulent activity discovered during the audit process and reports such suspicions to the carrier. Mr. Micco will be directly responsible for ensuring that all services required by the NYSIF contract are specifically met. Mr. Micco is a graduate of Youngstown State University. He has a B.S. Degree is Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant with licenses in both Pennsylvania and Ohio. Mr. Micco’s experience was developed at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, a leading insurance carrier providing their own premium audit services. Mr. Micco was a field manager as well as a management leader of Loss Audit Services. He was Employee of the Year for Liberty Mutual in 1993. He has also earned the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner. This honor is bestowed on those few individuals who have exemplary ethical and moral values within the insurance industry. He joined RLD Associates, Inc. in May 1995 as Director of Audit.

Jeffrey S. Micco, APA

Audit Manager

Located in the Home office, his duties include review of completed work to ensure the quality required by clients. He is responsible for the portion of the audit staff located within PA, MD and DE. He reviews and defends our position when test audit results are varied from our findings. Also, he is responsible for keeping audit staff aware of any code changes as instituted by the PAAS, NCCI and the PCRB/DCRB. Jeff shares ongoing training responsibilities with other field audit managers. Jeff handles underwriting issues when they arise. Jeff is a 1994 graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. He has the TAP designation from PAAS as well as his APA from the Institutes. His 6 years of field experience was obtained as a field premium audit for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company prior to joining RLD Associates, Inc. in April 2001.

Wendy Sherman

Audit Manager

Wendy’s duties include review of completed work to ensure the quality required by clients. She is responsible for the portion of the audit staff located in several of our states. She reviews and defends our position when test audit results are varied from our findings. Also, she is responsible for keeping audit staff aware of any code changes as instituted by PAAS, NCCI and the PCRB/DCRB. Wendy shares ongoing training responsibilities with other field audit managers. Wendy handles underwriting issues if and when they arise. Wendy is a 2002 graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a B.S. Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. She has the TAP designation from PAAS.  Wendy joined RLD Associates, Inc. immediately upon her graduation from college as a Premium Auditor.

Dale Tartick

New York Test Audit Manager

Duties include review and oversight of the CIRB audits conducted in the state of New York. Dale also is responsible and manages some of our key accounts and field staff. Dale has 36 years of experience in Insurance Premium Audit including being an audit manager for Charles E. Hock Associates, Inc. Dale will consult and advise as needed with management and will handle priority and complex audits as required or other special assignments when needed. Dale is also part of our emergency preparedness plan should the key personnel operating RLD Associates, Inc., be incapacitated due to injury, illness, pandemic, etc. Reports directly to President, Joseph C. Micco.

Matthew Ayers

Audit Manager

Matt’s duties include review of completed work to ensure the quality required by clients. He is responsible for the portion of the audit staff located within several of our states. Matt is a 1986 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. Degree in accounting. He joined RLD Associates as a premium auditor in 1991. His prior work experience as a training manager plus his exemplary audit and leadership skills resulted in his promotion to Training Manager. 

Justin Smallwood

Audit Manager

Justin’s duties include review of completed work to ensure the quality required by clients. He is responsible for the portion of the audit staff located within the Mid-Atlantic portion of our operating area. He is also responsible for keeping audit staff aware of any code changes as instituted by PAAS, NCCI and the CIRB. Justin shares ongoing training responsibilities with other field audit managers. Justin handles underwriting issues when they arise. Justin is a 2017 graduate of the University of Maryland with a B.S. Degree in Accounting.  Justin joined RLD Associates, Inc. in 2007 as a Premium Auditor and was promoted to Audit Manager in 2014.

Kimberly Riley

Recruitment & Training Manager

Kim is responsible for the hiring and training of new employees. Her duties include screening potential employees, as well
as providing online and in-house training sessions. After completion of these courses, she provides continued training through the review process, ensuring quality required by clients. Kim assisted in the process to overhaul RLD’s training program which includes continuing education webinars for our staff. Kim is a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a B.S. Degree in Business with a concentration in accounting. She joined RLD Associates as a telephone premium auditor in 2007 and was promoted to this position in September 2015.

Rebecca Macken

Training Manager

Becky is responsible for the hiring and training of new employees. These duties include screening applicants, performing telephone and onsite interviews and developing and leading online training sessions as well as in-person training sessions at the home office. With the help of co-manager, Kimberly Riley, she revised online training tools and developed a continuing education webinar program, which she leads on a bi-weekly basis. Becky is a 2003 graduate of Shippensburg University with a B.A. in English. She joined RLD as a premium telephone auditor in 2005 and was promoted to Manager in 2014.

Jessica McGuire

Customer Service/Office Rep.

Duties include Inventory control for both incoming and outgoing work, coordination and assignment of work to the entire field staff, accounts receivables, invoicing and transmittal control of our computerized inventory system. She is responsible for the daily download and printing of status reports as issued by the audit staff through RLD Associates, Inc. Jess answers incoming calls and questions from policyholders that have received advanced notice of the impending audit. Any information gathered is relayed to the proper auditor.

Angie Gonzalez

Customer Service/Office Rep.

Her responsibilities include dealing with audit department coordinators and supervisors who may have inquiries into the status of a particular audit, working daily with the field staff regarding the status of their inventory. She assists in the daily download and printing of status reports as issued by the audit staff through the RLD Associates, Inc. Additionally, Angie answers incoming calls and questions from policyholders that have received advanced notice of the impending audit. Any information gathered is relayed to the proper auditor.

Edward W. Lynch, Jr. CIPA

Director of Marketing

Ed serves as one of the primary contacts between RLD Associates, Inc. and insurance carriers on an account-by-account basis and oversees escalation procedures necessary to meet the service and quality requirements set forth by clients. Coordinates with RLD Associates, Inc. Customer Service Representative’s to ensure proper operating procedures are met and will update the RLD Associates, Inc. auditing staff on potential changes in procedures and service requirements as set forth by clients. Ed graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1998 with a degree in Sociology. He joined RLD Associates, Inc. in 2002.
